New Orleans Hornets star Anthony Davis has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2015-2016 season. Recurring knee and shoulder injuries prompted Hornets head coach Alvin Gentry to decide his All-Star forward/center should recover and rehabilitate himself.

The decision could potentially cost Davis $24 million. After signing his five-year max contract extension last July, he is governed by the Derrick Rose rule, which promises a higher percentage of the salary cap and higher annual raises to players who either win the MVP award, get voted an All-Star starter twice, or make two All-NBA teams. Last season, Davis was voted a starter in the 2015 All-Star Game, and made the All-NBA First Team.
