Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is joining the cast of Ryan Murphy's juicy FX anthology series Feud, which centers on the legendary show business feud between Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) and Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange). Zeta-Jones will play another popular actress of the era, Olivia de Havilland, best remembered for movies like Gone With the Wind and the thriller Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte.
Each season of Feud depicts another famous Hollywood battle. This season follows the behind-the-scenes drama Davis and Crawford created on the set of cult horror flick, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? The two leading ladies were among the biggest stars of their time, but today their reputations as fiery, temperamental troublemakers almost eclipses their individual contributions to classic motion pictures. Crawford's image was ruined by her daughter's tell-all book and subsequent biopic, Mommie Dearest. Davis's daughter made similar claims against her mother.
Alfred Molina plays the film's director Robert Aldrich, and Stanley Tucci takes on the role of Warner Bros. studio mogul Jack Warner. Judy Davis is cast as well-known gossip columnist Hedda Hopper. Dominic Burgess portrays actor Victor Buono, who co-starred with Crawford and Davis in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?.
Interestingly, Olivia de Havilland had her own infamous and long-running feud with her sister, actress Joan Fontaine, which would make a fascinating installment in itself. We'll have to wait and see if Catherine Zeta-Jones gets to reprise her role in a future season.
This show follows Ryan Murphy's hit FX series American Horror Story and American Crime Story. Murphy will direct several episodes of Feud and is executive producing alongside Brad Pitt.
