In the comedy Chef, Jon Favreau plays the creative and temperamental Carl Casper, who starts a food truck business in Miami after he loses his job when an "Internet-fueled flame-out" ruins his chance to open a restaurant in L.A.
Carl is determined to get his career back on track and reclaim his status as a promising culinary artist. At the same time, he attempts to patch things up with his estranged family.
In addition to starring in the movie, Favreau wrote and directed it. It marks the first time Favreau and actor Robert Downey Jr., who plays a supporting role in the movie, have worked together outside the enormously successful Iron Man franchise. Other big names in the star-studded ensemble cast include Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara, Dustin Hoffman, John Leguizamo and Bobby Cannavale.
Variety quoted Favreau as saying: "Setting a film in the culinary world of Los Angeles offers wonderful opportunities for a character-driven comedy."
Chef premiered at the SXSW festival earlier this month. It opens in theaters nationwide May 9.
