Film Adaptation of Bestseller 'Divergent' Gets a New Trailer

'Divergent,' a movie based on Veronica Roth's best-selling novel, is scheduled to open in theaters in March 2014.

The second trailer for Lionsgate's movie Divergent sets the stage for the plot of the upcoming film.

In post-apocalyptic Chicago, people are divided into five factions based on their personalities as determined by a simulation test. "The future belongs to those who know where they belong," says Efaction leader Jeanine Matthews, played by Kate Winslet.

When 16-year-old Beatrice (Shailene Woodley) takes the simulation test, she learns she is a "Divergent," a person who doesn't fit in any group. She is warned to hide—Divergents aren't welcome in society. Beatrice joins the Dauntless faction, a group known for its bravery. There she meets her love interest Tobias "Four" Eaton, played by Theo James, and uncovers a plot to kill all the Divergents.

Based on Veronica Roth's debut novel of the same name, Divergent will likely be compared to The Hunger Games due to similarities in the theme. Both movies are produced by Lionsgate.

Divergent premieres March 21, 2014, directed by Neil Burger, known for his work on 2011's Limitless. It also stars Zoe Kravitz, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney and Miles Teller. A sequel, based on Roth's second novel, Insurgent, is reportedly already in the works.
