Screenwriter David Goyer has been hired to write a treatment for the remake of the sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage. Goyer is not the first writer to try his hand at the project, which has been in production since 2011; but his arrival finally seems to be moving things forward. The producers are said to be putting the film on a fast track. Their faith in Goyer makes sense considering he guided the screen story for such high-profile projects as The Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Trilogy.
Not only is Goyer writing the treatment, he is also executive producing. The idea is to completely re-engineer the project. This is the first news to come out about the production in a long time and over many rough patches. Besides going through a number of screenwriters, several directors have come and gone.
The story follows a team of miniaturized scientists in a tiny submarine, who inhabit the body of a sick colleague in order to save his life. The group has two objectives: remove a blood clot in the scientist's brain and extract secret information about miniaturization from him.
The new movie version is being produced by Fox and James Cameron's company, Lightstorm.
