There has been plenty of buzz lately about whether Hugh Jackman will reprise the role of Wolverine for the highly anticipated X-Men: Apocolype and/or Deadpool. Jackman had been coy concerning the future of his most famous character, but he recently addressed the rumors. During a guest turn on the Live with Kelly and Michael morning show, the actor confirmed that his upcoming Wolverine sequel will be the last time he plays the iconic character. The untitled movie will be released March 3, 2017.
Jackman first played the popular Marvel mutant back in 2000 with X-Men, and it helped to establish the Australian-born actor's career in American cinema. The only actor to portray the character, Jackman has played Wolverine in seven films.
Regarding the decision to move on, Jackman gave partial credit to comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who advised him to "end on a high" while referencing his own decision to end his successful sitcom Seinfeld.
Jackman has plenty of other projects to keep him busy, including The Greatest Showman on Earth, out Dec. 25, 2016, in which he will play P.T. Barnum.
