STACK interviewed Karl-Anthony Towns, the first overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft (by the Minnesota Timberwolves), and the rookie talked about his favorite method of refueling after workouts. Towns attended the 30th annual Gatorade Athlete of the Year Awards in Los Angeles on July 14. He won Gatorade's Boys Athlete of the Year Award in 2014.
STACK: Talk about refueling after your workouts. Do you have a method?
TOWNS: For me, I love drinking the protein shakes that Gatorade offers, either after a game or during dinner. To throw some calories in there, I love chocolate. I love the Cookies and Cream flavored protein shake. I even had a new one I tried the other day, Chocolate Peanut Butter. It tastes awesome. I can't wait to continue to try the new flavors as they come out.
Was there ever a time when you worked out without carbohydrates? What did that feel like?
I've worked out with no carbohydrates, and you can tell the difference in your body. You know the biggest thing for me is I continue to do the same regimen I always do, especially drink the same things I like to drink during practice and during workouts.
How about working out dehydrated?
The worst thing you can do is to work out dehydrated. It absolutely leads to failed performance. Like I said, Gatorade allows me hydrate the way I need to in order to be an elite athlete.
