This great country of ours affords us many freedoms. So, in honor of Veteran's Day and the extraordinary servicemen and women who proudly serve this nation, we're reporting for training duty with Staff Sergeant Ken Weichert, master fitness trainer for the Army National Guard.
The principle behind Sgt. Weichert's training philosophy is simple: use bodyweight as resistance to develop functional strength. You won't find a single piece of training equipment in the sequence the two-war veteran shared with STACK.
They may look basic, but the workouts are a battle, as many can attest. Weichert offered a Boot Camp for Civilians at the D1 Sports Training facility in Nashville. One of our insider sources said, "It nearly killed me. Tons of repetition and cardio. All he wants to do is break you, and he'll keep at it until he does."
While speed development may not be atop the chain of command of the Armed Forces' training goals, this sequence of lower-body exercises will certainly support your mission to become a faster athlete.
As part of your next workout to develop lower-body explosiveness for multidirectional speed, perform three sets of Jump Squat Thrusts and Speed Skaters in superset fashion.
