Remember when eReaders were just for books? The new eReaders, such as the Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet, make readers of the past seem like ancient relics. Due out Nov. 18 with a slew of new features and functions—including video games and Marvel comics—the Nook has been redesigned to become the athlete's perfect road trip companion.

The new Nook Tablet was created from the ground up to be an everyday tablet. Like the recently introduced Amazon Fire, it supports touchscreen gameplay, internet access and movie streaming. Updated graphic capabilities make movies, comic book illustrations and games pop off the screen. According to a hands-on Wired.com review, the seven-inch screen is just the right size for users who play gaming apps or read graphic novels. Plus, thanks to Barnes & Noble's partnership with Marvel Comics, the Nook offers more than enough comic book titles to please even the most ardent fans.

Perhaps what makes the Nook Tablet most appealing to high school athletes is its price. Tablets like the iPad2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab sell for between $499 and $689. The Nook Tablet is being introduced at $249. If you've always wanted a tablet but couldn't afford an iPad, the new Nook might be the right choice for you.

Bring the Nook Tablet on your next road trip. You'll be carrying enough movies, music and games to keep you occupied for hours. Who knows? You might even read a book.
