The Air Jordan 2012 offers three midsole cushioning systems to meet the needs and objectives of different players. So far, we've discussed the "fly around" (for quickness) and the "fly over" (for elevation). Inspired by brand ambassador Carmelo Anthony, the final silhouette (the "fly through"), is designed to enable as much explosiveness and power as possible.
The orange "fly through" midsole consists of an Air Sole cushion running the full length of the foot to maximize absorption and reaction upon impact. In the video below, Nike shoe designers discuss the concept for the "fly through" in more detail.
The Air Jordan 2012 hits stores today, Saturday, Feb. 25. The basic edition includes one inner sleeve and one midsole for $180 and is customizable at retail. The Deluxe Edition—with the full flight system (two inner sleeves and three midsoles)—is available in two colorways, now retailing in stores and online for $223. The Air Jordan 2012 is also available on Nike iD ($205).
