Directing this crime drama is Pierre Morel, best known for the popular thriller, Taken. The screenplay was written by Don MacPherson, (The Avengers, 1998) and Pete Travis, who is better known as a director for features such as Vantage Point.

This is the first action role Penn has played in more than 30 years. He was quoted in USA Today as saying: "Calling it an 'action film' is kind of like calling Meryl Streep a sexy blonde chick. She is. But that really doesn't tell the story of what she is at all."

The Gunman will hit theaters nationwide Feb. 20, 2015.
