Stephen Fry (The Hobbit) and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) are among the high profile actors who have joined the ensemble cast of the big screen crime comedy The Brits are Coming. Uma Thurman and Tim Roth (Selma) play an eccentric British con artist couple, Harriet and Peter Fox, who flee to Los Angeles to avoid paying poker game losses to a notorious gangster. To raise the cash to pay off the debt, Harriet and Peter approach Sidney (Fry), a former associate, who secretly sells their whereabouts to the gangster. Desperate to settle with the gangster, who is now hot on their trail, the couple plan a jewel heist involving Peter's ex-wife and her new husband.
Other cast members include Maggie Q (The Divergent Series, Live Free or Die Hard), Parker Posey (Irrational Man), and Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness).
One of the film's producers, Robert Ogden Barnum, has enthusiastically praised the cast. Comingsoon.net quotes him as saying, "The Brits are Coming is truly a wildly hysterical ride from start to finish and promises to deliver on the laughs with such a talented and diverse cast on board to inhabit these unconventional characters. I couldn't be more thrilled with this phenomenal cast in place, which elevates the production."
Barnum is producing alongside Cassian Elwes (The Butler), J. C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year), and Dave Hansen (Elvis & Nixon).
The film is being directed by James Oakley, best known for the mystery thriller The Devil You Know. Oakley also co-wrote the screenplay for The Brits are Coming with collaborator Alex Michaelides.
The Brits are Coming is expected to land in theaters in 2016.
