The latest rumors surrounding CBS's upcoming superhero TV series Supergirl point to a cameo appearance by none other than The Man of Steel himself.
Kryptonsite spawned the rumor after spotting a casting notice on ProjectCasting.com for a "square jawed" tall male with "a ripped physique" to serve as a body double for "a DC Comic Superhero"—and, come on, who else could that be? Further, the casting call asks prospects to send in a shirtless pic and other info via email with the subject line: "Superman."
The superhero is rumored to "appear" in the pilot. But the fact that the producers are only looking for a body double suggests we won't get an up close look at Kal-El. Maybe a glimpse of his cape flowing in the background or perhaps a shadowy figure taking an intense interest in a fellow transplant from Krypton?
It's highly unlikely that Henry Cavill, who currently portrays the superhero, will do a quick appearance on the small screen. Warner Bros.' ambitious future plans probably don't leave him much time, and Supergirl isn't expected to co-exist in the same DCU as its film counterparts.
The series, which is being written and produced by Arrow's Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, will revolve around Kara Danvers, Supergirl's alter ego and Superman's cousin, who escaped Krypton before it was destroyed. She spent the majority of her youth resisting her powers, but at the age of 24 decided to embrace them and use them to help people.
Kara will be portrayed by Melissa Benoist. Calista Flockhart will play her boss, Cat Grant, and Mehcad Brooks will portray her potential love interest, Jimmy Olsen.
