Volkswagen's "The Force" created by agency Deutsch is the single most-watched ad in Super Bowl history.
In a move that was unprecedented at the time, the company released the full ad online a few days prior to the game.
They did this because they only had 30 seconds of ad time purchased during the game, yet Tim Ellis, who was then the head of marketing at Volkswagen North America, adored the 60-second cut they'd created.
The decision to release the longer version online ahead of the big game helped make it a viral sensation well before kickoff, and that blaze only grew stronger after the Super Bowl airing.
