Making a final appearance on Spike TV before heading over to its new home on FX, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) is set to premiere in its 14th season this Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m. EDT.
For the first time in the reality series' history, the show, which features coaches Michael Bisping and Jason "Mayhem" Miller, will spotlight bantamweight and featherweight fighters. Both weight classes will showcase 16 fighters each for a total of 32 contestants.
Last season, different from seasons seven through 12, the fighters under Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos didn't have to fight for a spot in the house. Now, not only will the fight-in bouts return, but the show's premiere episode will show every fight in full. Also this season, fans will get to vote on the season's best fight, best knockout and best submission. Each winner will receive $25,000.
MMA training is finding its way into the off-season workouts of many pro athletes, including STACK magazine's Back-To-School issue cover athlete A.J. Hawk (check out A.J.'s functional martial arts workout on STACK TV). TUF 14 will give you another in-depth look at the intense workouts involved in the sport. If you are looking to incorporate MMA training into your own workouts, watching TUF 14 may be a good place to start.
