The seventh installment of FOX's live coverage of the UFC will take place this Saturday, April 20. After six successful live events, UFC on FOX has become the sport's biggest stage. (UFC on FOX 6 pulled in an average of 3.77 million viewers, up 13 percent over UFC on FOX 5.)
Benson Henderson, the 2012 Fighter of the Year and current lightweight champion, who successfully defended his belt against Nate Diaz while headlining UFC on FOX 6, will again headline UFC on FOX 7, this time facing Diaz's training partner (and former Strikeforce champion), Gilbert Melendez.
This event will be unique in that every fight will feature a former Strikeforce fighter against a UFC veteran—and it will be held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. (Strikeforce's former home arena). Co-headlining will be former Strikeforce heavyweight and Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier, who goes up against the division's best submission artist, Frank Mir. Also on the card is the volatile Nate Diaz, who will battle former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson.
UFC on FOX 7 airs at 8 p.m. EDT with preliminary bouts airing on FX at 5 p.m. EDT, on April 20.
