The latest trailer for The Wolverine, which was unveiled at CinemaCon, gives fans a preview of some of the action sequences from the upcoming flick.
Set in Japan, the movie quickly pits its embattled hero, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, against a number of ninjas and rebels who wear their sunglasses at night. It seems immortality has its downside for those destined to fight for every moment. Among the villains hoping to bring an end to Wolverine is the seductive Viper, portrayed by model Svetlana Khochenkova, and the Silver Samurai, brought to life by Will Yun Lee.
Unlike most trailers, the 60-second spot reveals little or nothing about the plot. Fans are still in the dark about the series of events that sends Wolverine to Japan and how he manages to upset the underworld to the point where an endless supply of ninjas are sent forth to kill him. Although a little mystery is a good thing, it would help to get a hint of the plot. Fans are still a little hurt from 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which succeeded at the box office despite poor reviews.
James Mangold is directing the film, which is based on the first volume of the Marvel comic book series, Wolverine, by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. Famke Janssen will reprise her role as Jean Grey.
The Wolverine will be released on July 26 in 2D and 3D.
