Three new cast members have been announced for the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse film. Director/producer Bryan Singer took to Twitter Jan. 22 with the message, "Meet our new and brilliant young mutants..." and revealed the names of the actors who will play the younger versions of Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey. According to Singer, Storm will be portrayed by Alexandra Shipp, best known for playing the title role in Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B. Mud actor Tye Sheridan will take on the part of Cyclops, while Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) will play Jean Grey. In previous installments of the franchise, Halle Berry was cast as Storm, with Famke Janssen as Jean Grey and James Marsden as Cyclops.
The studio had already confirmed that actors James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassebender will return to reprise their roles from 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past. It was also announced last year that Oscar Issac (The Bourne Legacy) will join the cast as the villainous Apocalypse. At this point, whether Channing Tatum or Hugh Jackman will appear in the film remains unconfirmed.
Reportedly set in the 1980s, the movie will focus on the backstory of these popular mutants. Filming is expected to start in Montreal in April 2015. X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on May 27, 2016.
